History
Coming from a family of free thinkers and fishermen, climber/explorers, thatchers, stonemasons, guide dog trainers and beekeepers. I was brought up to dream and believe that I can do whatever I put my mind to.
I grew up in the north-west Highlands of Scotland, where there were few trees at the time, and the land thundered into the sea in a dramatic attempt to escape. The sky seemed to go on forever and every sunset makes even the hard-hearted stop and stare.
I was the youngest of 3, with 2 older brothers. We had the freedom and safety to explore every rock pool, and ruined croft. I learned to gut fish, abseil and climbed some of the UK’s most loved mountains before the age of 8.
Later an old friend of the family described us as ‘Feral children’ and I think that fits us perfectly.
I think these early days were a beautiful gift. I can’t imagine what it must be like to grow up in the confines of your home, which the majority of children do now!
My Mum played the piano and painted, and I can’t remember a day when I wasn’t surrounded by music and art. These early days still have a profound effect on my music and writing. I still feel the safest and most inspired when rubbing shoulders with empty space, trees, mountains and sea. Water draws me and sometimes I yearn for the smell and taste of salt on my lips and an awareness of the tides and moon.
I have dreamed of success and as I get older I realise I have never been comfortable with the music industry and what you need to become to be noticed!
On several occasions I have been described as more of a tech than a DIVA, and it grates on my heart to see the power some people hold corrupt the essence of music and raw talent.
I will keep singing, writing and travelling till the day my heart gives way to the earth and I will try to remind us all why we do what we do, often with little acknowledgement. I will keep reaching out to all the ears that want to listen.:-)
May each new song keep being a fantastic adventure, and with it a new story to add to the world.
Please listen and decide for yourself what is important – enjoy
